The busy junction at the Nyíregyháza stadium is to get a roundabout

The site has been handed over to the contractor; construction of the roundabout at the junction of Stadion Street, Kótaji Road and Hímes Street – Vasvári Pál Street in Nyíregyháza – reports szon.hu. According to public records, the development taking place near the city’s football stadium is being carried out by HEDO.

The obstacles have finally been cleared

According to statements made at the press conference on 16 March, this will be the fifteenth roundabout in Nyíregyháza, following the project completed in 2014 between Szarvas Street and Arany János Street.

Mayor Ferenc Kovács also noted that they had been waiting a long time for this roundabout to be completed, but had previously faced technical and financial challenges. „The approved plans have been in place for years, and now work can finally begin,” he said.

He added that they are confident that the roundabout will be ready for use by the start of the new school term. He also pointed out that on match days, the volume of traffic passing through here increases by several thousand vehicles.

Dr Győző Vinnai, Member of Parliament, spoke about how several districts are set to benefit: „It is not only the residents of Hímes who use this stretch of road, but also those from Buji, Paszab, Tiszabercel and Gávavencsellő who work in Nyíregyháza or bring their children here to school. The traffic here is heavy, so it is very important that, once the roundabout is opened, road users will be able to reach their destinations more safely.”

Local councillor András Jeszenszki pointed out that the already heavy traffic in the district is set to increase further due to the growing student numbers at the University of Nyíregyháza in recent years, which is why it is essential to increase the junction’s capacity.
