Road building
Three new sections are to be added to Zala’s cycle route network
Further developments are set to begin in Zala, which will further improve the region’s cycling infrastructure. As part of the „Zala on Two Wheels – Cycle Path Development between Zalasárszeg and Galambok” project, new sections are being built in the villages of Csapi, Kisrécse, Zalasárszeg and Galambok. The total length of the route connecting the villages is 6,720 metres, and the construction work has been entrusted to Horváth-Ép Közmű- Út- és Mélyépítő Kft has been commissioned to carry out the work.
The work will take place at three sites
The project consists of three phases. A new two-way cycle path is being built in the Zalasárszeg area, whilst cycle routes are being marked out on low-traffic public roads in the direction of Csapi and Galambok. The project therefore involves not only the laying of new surfacing, but also traffic engineering, drainage and road resurfacing works.
A new cycle path is being built on the first section
A cycle path 420 metres long is being built on the first section. The section will be 2.55 metres wide, with cycle lanes 1 metre wide each.
The route, starting at the junction of the 7511 connecting road and the 7523 Zalasárszeg connecting road, will join the cycle path between Kisrécse and Zalasárszeg.
The development also involves riverbed correction work on the Sárszegi Stream
The route also crosses the Sárszegi Stream. Here, a pipe with a diameter of 1,600 millimetres will be installed over a length of 5.5 metres, with a gradient of 1.2 per cent. Monolithic concrete headwalls are being constructed on both sides of the pipe, whilst the stream bed is being lined with basalt quarry stone set in cement mortar over a length of 5 metres at both the inlet and outlet. As part of the works, a 15-metre-long channel realignment will also be carried out. During construction, the existing gateways will be restored and a new culvert will be built.
A route with light traffic is being designated for the journey to Csapi, covering nearly three kilometres
The second section starts at the junction of the 7511 connecting road and the 75127 Zalaújlak access road, and runs to the junction of Arany János út and Petőfi Sándor utca in Csapi. On this section, a 2,970-metre stretch of low-traffic, cycle-friendly road is being designated. As the asphalt surface on this section is potholed and cracked, the contractor is carrying out road resurfacing works on the section in addition to marking out the cycle route.
The cycle route continues as far as Galambok
The third section starts in Csapi, at the junction of Arany János út and Petőfi Sándor utca, and runs to Galambok, up to the junction of Dózsa György utca and the connecting road marked 7511, i.e. Somogyi Béla út. On this section, a 3,330-metre low-traffic cycle route will be designated on the connecting road between the two towns. On the 4–5-metre-wide upgraded road, traffic management measures will be the primary requirement: the cycle route will be marked with signage and road markings.
The drainage systems are being renovated
As part of the project, a new 211-metre-long storm drain with a diameter of 50 centimetres, fitted with grating-covered inspection chambers, will be constructed on the right-hand side of the 7511 connecting road. On the same section of road, new kerbs will be installed and the right-hand traffic lane will be widened to 3 metres.
The existing ditches will be cleared: this work will be carried out over a 90-metre section on road 7511 and a 100-metre section alongside access road 75127.
