School architecture is no longer merely a functional matter: pedagogical, social and economic considerations all play a decisive role.

How to build a good educational institution? – this is the title of the next round-table discussion in the Trust Your Architect series, organised by Kortárs Építészeti Központ (KÉK). Our newspaper reported on the first event in the series from the venue: in January industry leaders discussed realistic options for affordable housing.

The upcoming discussion on the topic of educational buildings will take place on 24 April at the KÉK headquarters in Budapest (1111 Budapest, Bartók Béla út 10–12). In a statement sent to our newspaper, KÉK emphasises that the quality of a school building fundamentally influences the effectiveness of teaching processes. „School architecture is no longer merely a functional issue, but a complex, interdisciplinary field in which pedagogical, social and economic considerations all play a decisive role,” they explain.

Representatives of architectural practices with differing approaches are meeting

The aim of the discussion is to provide a comprehensive overview of current issues in the design of educational institutions, and to explore architectural and operational strategies that enable adaptive and sustainable operation in the long term.

What makes this round-table discussion unique is that representatives from architectural practices with differing perspectives come together to critically reflect on the current dilemmas facing educational architecture, thereby creating an opportunity to deepen professional dialogue.

Participants in the discussion:

  • Krisztina Somogyi (architecture critic, researcher in the visual environment)
  • András Cseh (CAN Architects Studio Kft.)
  • László Herczeg (MCXVI Építészműterem Kft.)
  • Péter Bordás (BORD Építész Stúdió)
  • Moderator: Bence László Dobos (Archikon)
