Potholes and uneven surfaces are to be eliminated – One of the 18th district’s major collector roads is to be upgraded

The seven different bus routes and the daily flow of private cars have really taken their toll on the tarmac on this street in Pestszentlőrinc; it can hardly cope with any further strain. Consequently, the local council of the 18th district took action and successfully concluded the public procurement tender. The construction work, valued at 279.9 million forints net, will be carried out by Tápiómenti Kft..

The project concerns the section of Petőfi Street between Üllői Road and Gilice Square.

The refurbishment work will take place from 16 July 2026 until the end of August.

The road is being resurfaced over a stretch of nearly one kilometre

As part of the development, the entire surface of the 903-metre-long, 7-metre-wide section of road will be resurfaced, covering a total area of approximately 6,321 square metres.

One of the most important elements of the project is the milling of the existing asphalt surface, which covers an area of more than 6,400 square metres; this will be followed by the laying of a new wearing course. As part of the works,

• Asphalt cutting work is being carried out over a distance of 126 metres,
• The existing surfacing will be removed over an area of 367 square metres,
• almost 629 cubic metres of rubble are being removed,
• The levelling of 38 manholes and drains, as well as 11 utility fittings (water and gas shut-off valves), will be carried out,
• restore the utility lines,
• they are tidying up the verges,
• the driveways are being refurbished,
• and new road markings will also be painted.

A total of more than 520 cubic metres of asphalt will be laid on the road surface.

One of the area’s most important roads is being upgraded

Petőfi Street is one of the main thoroughfares in the 18th district, linking Üllői Road with Gilice Square, and carries a significant volume of car and bus traffic every day. According to information from the local council, the condition of the road – due to surface defects that have developed over the years, such as potholes, cracks and unevenness – has now made a complete resurfacing necessary.

As a result of the project, a smoother, quieter and safer road surface will benefit local residents, as well as motorists, cyclists and public transport users. However, during the works, temporary traffic restrictions and changes to public transport routes are to be expected.
