Road building
Magyar Közút is planning to carry out road resurfacing works on 594 kilometres of road this year
Renovation work on our national road network is being carried out as planned under the 2021–2025 framework, according to information sent to our newspaper by Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt.. Of the total budget of 80 billion forints, more than 149 billion forints will be spent this year across all 19 counties, over a length of 594 km. Under the TOP_PLUSZ programme, 239 roads may be renovated, whilst under a further six programmes funded from domestic sources, Magyar Közút will be able to carry out work on 33 national roads, covering a total of approximately 60 billion forints and 65 kilometres.
In 2026, construction work commenced at 152 sites across the country under project Magyar Közút, involving, amongst other things, road resurfacing, the construction of roundabouts and the installation of pedestrian crossings.
According to the relevant public procurement notice states that the STRABAG can work at 50 sites, and Duna Aszfalt, Colas has been awarded 21 sites, 19 were awarded to HE-DO, 16 were awarded to SWIETELSKY Magyarország, 11 sites for Soltút can carry out work at 7 sites, and KE-VÍZ, at 5 sites by Euroaszfalt, and in three places the Zemplénkő.
In some places, the entire surface needs to be replaced
Of these, 69 road sections have had their surfacing completely replaced, covering a total of 153.4 kilometres, whilst renovation work is currently underway on a further 72 sections, totalling 219.6 km of secondary roads. In addition, with domestic funding, the road surface has been renewed over a distance of nearly 8 km as part of four refurbishment projects so far this year, and the refurbishment of a bridge has also been completed. A further seven projects are under way, involving road surface refurbishment over 13.5 kilometres and the construction of a roundabout junction.
During every refurbishment project, in addition to upgrading the road surface, local repairs are carried out on the sub-base (base course, earthworks), and, where necessary, minor widening, alignment corrections and bridge refurbishment are also carried out.
It is not just the road surfacing that is being renewed where the Magyar Közút is at work: attention is also being paid to traffic signs, road fittings and drainage systems. Where necessary, junctions along the road sections are being redesigned and upgraded, and, where required, utility lines are also being relocated.
