Video showing the construction of the new bridge on the M7 motorway

Published

The video now shows the most important milestones in the bridge’s history, by way of a summary.

The new pedestrian and cycle bridge on the M7 motorway has been completed as a state-of-the-art steel-structured bridge, funded by MKIF Zrt.. Construction began at the end of 2024. The steel structure was manufactured in Poland by Duna Aszfalt Zrt., after which the components were painted and assembled in Hungary.

Although the bridge rebuilt in the Velence area had already been opened in May, the Magyar Építők crew followed the construction of the new bridge and the demolition of the old one from start to finish.

In this clip, which lasts a few minutes, you can see how the components of the new bridge were assembled, how they were installed, how the load test was carried out, and how the new bridge’s predecessor – the 60-year-old reinforced concrete structure – was demolished.

The spectacular passageway designed by Főmterv Zrt. was inspired by two key considerations:

  • on the one hand, repairing the old, outdated reinforced concrete footbridge, built in 1966, would have been more expensive than building a new bridge;
  • On the other hand, following the widening of the M7 motorway, due to start next year, the three-lane motorway would not have fit beneath the old bridge.
