Road building
It will be easier to reach the southern cellars in Villány
In Villány and the immediate surrounding area, significant cycling infrastructure improvements have been carried out in recent years, which benefit both local residents and tourism in the wine region. As a further development, the south-eastern part of the town is set to gain a safe cycle route. A contractor is being sought to build Villány’s latest cycle route. The successful tenderer will have 8 months to complete the work; the deadline for applications is 19 October.
Cycling along the wine routes: the construction of a cycle path in the Villány section, as part of the TOP_PLUSZ project, could extend the local cycle network by nearly 1,576 metres of new route, comprising three sections that are markedly distinct from one another, both in technical terms and in atmosphere. The development begins on the service road off Baross Gábor Street – directly alongside the 5701 national road – where, over a stretch of just over 216 metres, the road will be resurfaced with a brand-new 3.5-metre-wide asphalt surface. This surface will be constructed to channel rainwater away at a gradient of 2.5%, whilst its edges will be bordered by a stable kerb and a recessed „K”-shaped kerb to ensure comfortable and safe travel.
The most complex part of the route is the 73-metre section between the service road and Petőfi Sándor Street, where a separate footpath and cycle path are being built.
To ensure that cyclists and pedestrians do not get in each other’s way, the two-metre-wide cycle lane and the one-and-a-half-metre-wide pavement will be separated by a dedicated kerb, whilst a one-metre-wide protective green strip will shield cyclists from the busy main road – and at the gateways, kerbs lowered to just two centimetres will ensure a smooth transition. From here, cyclists will turn onto the quieter Petőfi Sándor and Rákóczi Ferenc streets along the new route, where the bulk of the project – a section of almost 1.3 kilometres – will be marked with clearly visible signs and painted pictograms to guide road users.
