Eleven stations along five railway lines are being prepared to create the logistical conditions for civil-military use. In addition to two kilometres of new catenary network, the construction phase of the project will also include 21 kilometres of track.

With nearly HUF 2 billion, Vasútvillamosító Kft. will be able to carry out the preparatory work necessary for civil and military logistics transformations at TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network) railway stations in western Hungary. The relevant announcement was published in the EU public procurement bulletin a few days ago. This includes a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis, an environmental impact study, the preparation of building permit plans, the acquisition of the necessary permits and, as an optional task, the preparation of implementation plans.

The investment is dual-use

MÁV Zrt. is implementing this development project as a co-beneficiary with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. The investment will be implemented with the support of the European Union's CEF-T-2021-MILMOB-STUDIES programme, following the signature of the agreement on 27 September 2022, after a positive EU evaluation of the project.
The aim of the development is to provide railway stations in the western and south-western regions of the country with the technical and logistical facilities to meet civil and military transport needs.

Eleven internationally important stations would be upgraded

The programme will not only increase the security and resilience of the national transport network, but will also contribute to Hungary's active participation in the European defence mobility network.
The project covers 11 railway stations of the TEN-T core network in Transdanubia, including Almásfüzitő, Komárom, Nagyszentjános, Hegyeshalom, Várpalota, Hajmáskér, as well as stations that play a key role in domestic and international rail freight transport.

2 km of overhead lines, 21 km of new tracks

The planning project includes the replacement of a total of 113 sidings, all of which will be connected to the safety equipment, the construction of more than twenty-one thousand linear metres of track and the preparation for the construction of two kilometres of overhead line network.

Here is the list of the municipalities involved in the project

MÁV Zrt. has split the project into three separate sub-bid packages, with the possibility of contracting by phases.
The first part covers the stations associated with Line 1 - Hegyeshalm, Nagyszentjános, Komárom and Almásfüzitőt - and the second covers Boba, which is part of Line 20, Hajmáskért and Várpalót, while the third includes Murakeresztúr, Dombóvár, Sárbogárd and Kiskorpád along lines 30, 40 and 41 in southern Transdanubia.
The planners will carry out their tasks under separate contracts for each section. As part of the European Defence Mobility Programme, the development will contribute to the Hungarian railway network's capacity to serve civil and military logistics needs. In the long term, the investment will strengthen the competitiveness of the railway infrastructure in Western Hungary, improve the conditions for international freight transport and at the same time enhance the country's strategic defence capabilities.
