Semi-urban pair - two more villages get sewerage network

A true essential culture still dominates the Mezzovany, which includes some 300 Hungarian, Romanian and Saxon settlements, and whose ancient but rich dance and music culture has preserved most of Transylvania's Renaissance and Baroque heritage. The interweaving and interaction of Hungarian, Romanian, Gypsy and Saxon cultures has enhanced the richness of the Transylvanian dance and music heritage to the highest level: the boundaries between Hungarian and Romanian characteristics are completely blurred in the Mezzovany - a true cultural bilingualism prevails. 

The cornerstone of this tradition, which is still alive today, is the preservation of liveable villages, as this is where the rural population, folk customs and activities can most easily be maintained. To this end, a sewage network is also being built in the villages of Mezögyéres (Ghirișu Român) and Mezőkeszü (Chesău), which belong to the municipality of Mócs (Mociu): the subsidiary of SZABADICS Zrt. will build a total of more than 13 kilometres of sewage network in the two settlements, SZABADICS Romania S.R.L., will build a total of more than 13 kilometres of sewage network in the villages of Mezőkeszü (Chesău) and Mezőkeszü (Chesău), connecting every house in the settlements to the common network.

They can finish before the deadline

The water and sewerage network, which is being built with the support of the Anghel Saligny National Investment Programme, is being set up with the declared aim of improving the social and economic opportunities and quality of life of the inhabitants of the villages. The total budget for the construction of 7,400 metres in Mezögyéres and 5,720 metres in Mezőkeszün is approximately RON 7 million net, and the project, which will start in July 2023, should be completed in 24 months.

"We have now completed about 11 kilometres of sewer sections, which is 85% of the total length of the network, so we are confident that the project will be completed by the end of 2024, before the 2025 deadline," says Cristian Felfeldi, Director of SZABADICS Romania S.R.L.

Multi-stakeholder process, long-term impacts

As Mr Felföldi Cristian pointed out, the investor is involved in the smooth running of the project from the signing of the contract and will do its utmost to ensure that the construction of the sewerage system is completed on time. This close cooperation is necessary, as the construction of a sewerage network involves a number of logistical, technical and environmental issues. Changing geological conditions (such as sandy or clayey soils), traffic management and the impact on the community are also common problems for which the contractor must prepare the teams, as only then can they provide a quick and efficient solution.

The sustainable construction and long-term impact of the wastewater network is also an important consideration. As indicated by the Director:

"To achieve these goals, we pay great attention to using durable, corrosion-resistant materials and to ensuring that sewer construction is monitored to identify and minimise risks before they become failures."
