Another major construction project has been launched as part of the Paks expansion
Another important phase has begun in the construction of the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant: on 18 March, work commenced on excavating the foundation pit for Unit 6 to the design level – as reported on the project’s website. During this process, nearly half a million cubic metres of earth will be excavated to create a foundation pit 23 metres deep, 150 metres wide and 190 metres long. A fleet of thirty units was deployed at the start, and the process will continue until the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, in the area adjacent to the work site—specifically within the nuclear island of Unit 5, which has been divided into sections—the construction of the base slab is proceeding in successive phases. Concrete pouring for the various areas, the insulation and earthing of the concrete, steelwork installation and the concreting of the foundation slab sections are all taking place side by side, in accordance with the so-called organisational plan.
