Four wind turbines may be built in Fejér County

The first final building permit for Green Energy Investhor paves the way for the construction of a wind farm with a total capacity of 28.8 MW in Banán. Further phases of the project will affect three counties and 16 localities.

The first phase of Green Energy Investhor Zrt.’s wind farm development programme – comprising several independent projects with a combined total capacity of nearly 500 + 50 MW – is set to begin. The Fejér County Government Office has granted a final building permit for the construction of a wind farm comprising four turbines, with a total capacity of 28.8 MW, on the outskirts of Bana.

A milestone in the use of wind energy

This latest planning permission is the first building permit for the company’s development programme covering 16 towns and three counties, and thus marks a milestone in the preparations for this large-scale renewable energy investment. Antal Ritter, Chief Executive of Green Energy Investhor, said:

„Obtaining the planning permission for the Bana project is a real milestone for us. It is the first tangible result of the preparatory work we have been carrying out for many years, and also the first concrete step towards realising our wind farm development programme.”

Four state-of-the-art turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2 MW, may be installed

Following the granting of an official licence, construction may now begin on four wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 7.2 MW, on the outskirts of Bana.

The turbines will have a blade diameter of 170 metres, and the total height of the wind turbines will reach 215 metres.

The licence applies exclusively to the construction of wind turbines; connection to the grid may be carried out under a separate licensing procedure. Construction may commence once the necessary additional regulatory licences have been obtained and the relevant conditions have been met.

The project can go ahead provided that nature conservation requirements are met

According to Green Energy Investhor, particular attention was paid to the conservation of natural assets during the project’s preparatory phase. Bird and bat surveys, as well as nature conservation assessments, were carried out at the project sites over a period of more than a year. The environmental impact assessments and the planned nature conservation measures were based on the results of these surveys.

The building permit that has just been issued contains strict nature conservation requirements. During construction, the protection of protected wildlife must be ensured, and following commissioning, continuous monitoring of birds and bats must be carried out for at least five years.

 

Seventy wind turbines are planned across three counties

The Banai project is the first phase of the Green Energy Investhor wind farm development programme, which is of national significance. The series of investment projects prepared by the company will affect 16 localities in the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom and Vas.

Under the plans, a total of 70 state-of-the-art wind turbines could be installed as part of the programme, with an expected annual electricity generation of 1,200 GWh. Once the project is completed, the country’s current wind power capacity could increase nearly threefold.

According to the company, the investment could help to strengthen Hungary’s energy security, reduce its dependence on imported energy, and contribute to the achievement of domestic climate targets.

Alongside solar energy, the role of wind energy could also grow

Wind energy could become an important complement to solar energy in the domestic energy system in the coming years. Whilst solar power stations generate electricity primarily during the day and in favourable weather conditions, wind farms, with their different generation profile, can help to enhance the flexibility and stability of the electricity system. The Green Energy Investhor development programme is linked to this objective: the implementation of this series of investments, totalling more than 500 MW, could bring about a significant expansion in Hungary’s wind power capacity.
