Duna Bonum helped the Autism Centre in Szolnok with a new playground

Duna Bonum Alapítvány supported the Autism Centre in Szolnok by creating a new playground. The foundation established by László Szíjj provided assistance in the implementation of Duna Aszfalt Zrt., creating four playground elements and four benches in the courtyard of the Liget Úti Unified Special Education Methodology Institution Kindergarten, Primary School and Skills Development School Autism Centre. In addition, new pavement coverings and 60 square metres of shock-absorbing rubber flooring were installed.

Thanks to Duna Bonum Alapítvány, the Szolnok institution spent more than HUF 10 million on the equipment and the design of the space. At the ceremonial handover of the playground, Dr. Barna Ónodi, spokesperson of the foundation, said that the ars poetic of their organisation is that whatever the amount of support they provide, their main goal is to make it felt by those who receive it. She explained that they received the request a few months ago from Barbara Bóka, the director of the Autism Centre, who explained in her letter what they needed in detail and in order of importance. "Of course, we decided to provide full support, but at the same time we undertook not only to purchase the play elements, but also to carry out the implementation," the spokesperson explained.

A source of joy is essential for children

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Mária Kállay, Member of Parliament, who pointed out that the love and care for children is immeasurable in this member institution, where the staff has a mission. In this context, Mayor Ferenc Szalay said that in Szolnok it is a natural thing to work with children and adults with disabilities. Ferenc Hajnal, head of the institution, added that a source of joy is essential for children, and the new equipment helps them to enjoy themselves and to exercise, which is just as important.

Zoltán Kiticsics told us that the work started with the demolition of the existing toys, the excavation of the land for the playground floor area and the demolition of the concrete and paving. The elements of the new playground were then put in place. The project continued with the construction of the new paving and the laying of the rubber sheeting around the toys, followed by the application of the rubber sheets and the landscaping.
