Experts from the Pantone Institute have announced the colours for 2024. They blend the past and a hopeful future, just as they have throughout the history of Terrán , begins summary of the year.

While many colours will always be a timeless choice for interiors and dressing, there are some that change from year to year. It's a complicated question as to why a particular colour becomes dominant, it probably has a big influence on what appears on the catwalks, but it also reflects our wider cultural context. It is likely that a prosperous, peaceful period in history will be dominated by different colours than a conflict-ridden, recessionary period. Our colour choices also reveal our relationship to life and our moods, energising or even calming us down," they say.

Colour trends for 2024

The colour trend clearly shows that sustainability has become a central issue, with a resurgence of green colours that symbolise nature but are also known to have a calming effect. Peppery green or mint remind us of nature and environmentally friendly paints and interiors. Earth tones are strong this year: they definitely represent nature and a sense of clarity and depth. Of course, nature can also symbolise freedom. And freedom unleashes creativity, it empowers the imagination. In addition, earth colours are easy to live with, they suit most spaces. But various shades of blue - a symbol of the sky, peace and purity - also feature on the trend experts' list.

The Pantone trend colours:

• Rooibos tea, rich, full-bodied red colour with woody notes
• Watercress, refreshing, invigorating green peas
• Chambray Blue, light denim blue with light vitality
• Orangeade, sweet and slightly tart, red-orange shade with a hint of fruity citrus
• Desert Flower, warm and attractive pink
• Pastel Lilac, a soft and powdery lavender shade with a sweet scent that you can almost smell
• Marlin, a blue typical of tropical and temperate waters
• Lemon Drop, juicy candied lemon
• Like, cooling mint green, like fresh air
• Capri, a bright blue shade reminiscent of the azure blue waters of the blue cave

In addition to the 10 dominant colours, the Institute also voted for five other shades:

• Mushroom, earthy brownish grey
• Quiet Shade, a protective, shady grey,
• Brilliant White, a clean, crisp colour that conveys simplicity and modernity
• Northern Droplet, a rainy grey that exudes a quiet calm
• Brush, khaki, which blends naturally into its environment
