Public housing development programme launched around Lake Balaton
The Prime Minister's Office will provide HUF 5 billion this year for the construction of local government service housing for the priority Balaton resort region, and the Balaton Development Council (BFT) plans to launch two tenders for the allocation of the funds, István Bóka, co-chairman of the council, said on 16 January.
He stressed that the construction of new service housing and the extension of the old ones is a huge step forward for the Lake Balaton region, as the shortage of public service workers is a growing problem year by year.
In several municipalities, there is a lack of sufficient numbers of nursery, kindergarten, primary school, secondary school teachers, health and social workers, administrative, law enforcement and public education professionals
- he added. He noted that the income conditions in these areas do not allow them to afford the drastically increased property prices in Balaton.
The first places to apply are the district headquarters
In the first round, the district seats of the resort region will be eligible to apply for HUF 3 billion from February, as these settlements have the largest number of public institutions and services. In the second round, the municipalities of the other municipalities in the region will be eligible to apply for HUF 1.5 billion, probably from May-June.
A reserve will also be set aside from the grant to cover over-claims, programme management and studies and analyses in preparation for the Balaton Housing Programme. The exact criteria for the applications to be invited are still being worked out and agreed," István Bóka said.
