Here are 30 years of Weinberg in pictures and posts
In April 2024, Weinberg "93 Építő Kft, a leading company in the Zemplén region and one of national significance, celebrated its 30th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the company launched a retrospective series on its social media pages, highlighting the most significant projects and milestones of the past 30 years. Further posts in the series and news about the company are continuously available on its social media platforms: in addition to LinkedIn, also on Facebook and Instagram.
The posts contain interesting information about the company's first steps. The family business bought the site of the former millstone factory in Sárospatak in 1998, and through continuous development and expansion, step by step, they started and have been running our steel structure manufacturing business ever since. The first production hall of Weinberg was built in 2000, followed by further investments in the years that followed.
This is how the crane manufacturing base, which now covers 15,000 square metres, and an outdoor storage area of a similar size, were created. In one of the most modern steel structure manufacturing plants in Hungary, welded and machined structures are produced with welding robots, laser and plasma cutting machines, and machining centres.
On this basis, the company provides its customers with high-precision building structures and complex solutions.
As our newspaper reported, the company recently expanded with a new office space built with world-class digital technology, which was completed in April. rel="noopener">world-class digital technology, which was completed in April, at a grand event celebrating the company's 30th anniversary in April.
Already proven in the first project
The company's first order 30 years ago was the construction of a 3,300 square metre production hall for FÉG Konvektor Rt. in Ócsa. This project, which was awarded on a trust basis, was the first big opportunity for Weinberg to prove their skills in the field of hall construction. As they write in the post:
The first successful project showed the huge market potential of so-called lightweight halls. "The journey started in Occa inspires us to this day to continue to provide the highest quality service to our customers"
- they add.
An important milestone in the series is the realisation of the Swiss Krono investment in Vásárosnamény by a Swiss woodworking multinational in the mid-2010s. The construction of the OSB plant took the company to the next level:
this is when it started to move towards more complex plant and factory construction, where it has now become a dominant player in the market.
Conquest in the power industry
The real strength of the Sárospatak-based company lies in the design and build type of developments: in these greenfield projects, the project is implemented from the first step to turnkey, including technological preparation. This is one of the ways in which the BorsodChem gas turbine project in Kazincbarcika was won, thus entering the power plant industry.
A special steel structure that has gained worldwide recognition
One of Weinberg's greatest structural steel pride, which has deservedly received professional attention not only nationally but also worldwide, is the Hungarian House of Music. Behind the stunning spectacle of the capital's cultural centre, designed by Japanese star architect Sou Fujimoto, lies a series of design and engineering solutions never before seen in Hungary, in which Weinberg's structural steel expertise played a key role.
The building has a number of distinctive and unique details, one of the most unique being the organically undulating roof with perforated holes. This form is brought to life by the steel structure, which was fabricated at the Sárospatak plant and then installed on site.
The intricate, organic forms required extreme precision in both design and construction. For the innovative technical solutions implemented during the project, the high technical standard, quality and aesthetic requirements, the Hungarian Steel Construction Association awarded the Weinberg with the 2022 Steel Construction Award of Excellence.
Local patriotism is the "soul" of Weinberg
As a design and build project, Weinberg completed the SRK Wáberer Sportcentrum in Sárospatak until the turnkey handover. The project, close to the heart of owner-manager István Derczó, opened in June 2018.
The sports facility of the Reformed College of Sárospatak was built with 1.3 billion HUF: the 70% was financed by TAO subsidies, the rest by donations from György Wáberer, József Sándor alumni and István Derczó, honorary alumni and the owner-manager of Weinberg. The 3,183 square metre modern sports hall is suitable for international handball and basketball matches and has a mobile, electrically operated auditorium for 850 people. It is also a permanent venue for the school's physical education classes, where up to three classes can be held simultaneously without interruption thanks to the separate sections.
As Weinberg writes in its post, "We are proud to have contributed to the realisation of a sports complex for such a prestigious school in the area and to have helped to provide schoolchildren with a sports hall that is fit for the modern age."
How did Weinberg, operating in a 90% competitive market, become a quality player in the Hungarian construction industry 30 years ago, and how did it evolve from a classic hall construction company into a company executing highly complex projects? is revealed in our April interview. In it, owner and managing director István Derczó, who is also a leading local patriot in the Zemplén region, talked about how, in addition to expertise, they place at least as much emphasis on a people-centred approach and continuity.
