New Budapest project, higher order books and green solutions at Skanska in 2024

Skanska closed an outstanding year in 2024 in terms of finance, operations and sustainability in its international markets. As stated in their press release sent to our newspaper, the company implemented its long-term strategy with a higher order backlog than ever before and reduced carbon emissions, while further strengthening its position in Central Europe, including Hungary.

Record year

In the group's statement, they first highlighted their strong international financial backing: Skanska closed 2024 with global sales of nearly EUR 15.1 billion (SEK 177 billion) and an operating profit of EUR 610 million (SEK 7.1 billion), further strengthening its position in the international construction and property development sector. The Group's order book rose to EUR 24.4 billion (SEK 285 billion), beating its own previous record. Highlights included: the profitability of the construction business remained stable, with an operating profit margin of 3.5%, in line with the company's long-term financial targets.

In terms of green solutions, the company's carbon emissions from its own operations in 2024 will have been reduced by 611TTP3167T compared to 2015 levels, while emissions from development and construction activities will have been reduced by 371TTP3167T compared to 2020 levels.

H₂Offices - the example project

The sustainability goals of Skanska are also being implemented at the local level: At the end of 2024, the second phase of the H₂Offices project was launched in Budapest at the Váci út office corridor (we reported in detail on the first phase, which was carried out by CLC-Construct Kft. and was reported in detail in our newspaper, including in the article handover). Writing about the second phase, the announcement explains:

The building will be carbon neutral in its operation - the development will be based on renewable energy, resource efficiency and spaces tailored to community needs. The Budapest project demonstrates how the global sustainability goals of Skanska are being put into practice.
