120 kilometres of high-voltage power lines to be built in the Transdanubian region, reducing blackouts
The E.ON Group is making a particularly significant investment of HUF 16.5 billion in North Transdanubia. The investment by the company operating the electricity network in Pest County, Budapest and the affected part of Transdanubia will ensure a more stable long-term electricity supply for households in the affected area, reduce the risk of power outages and promote the wider use of renewable energy in homes, they emphasise in their announcement.
The giant project will involve the construction of more than 120 kilometres of 132 kV transmission lines, as part of the series of developments that E.ON will carry out in the framework of the Danube InGrid cross-border cooperation project, supported by the European Union, until the end of 2025. Two thirds of the costs will be covered by E.ON's own investment resources and one third by the European Union's contribution.
Interesting facts about the investment:- The columns are surface-protected with duplex technology, which ensures a service life of up to 50-80 years
- The lines also contain optical fibre to facilitate communication between substations
- In total, more than 400 pylons and 250 km of pipeline are needed to complete the Danube InGrid transmission line investments
This is where the new lines will go
The development will also include two longer sections of transmission line and the connection of new substations to the high-voltage network.
Key developments and new network connections:
- Kisbér - Veszprémvarsány - Zirc-north - Litér
- Csorna - Répcelak - Csepreg
Green aspects have been taken into account in several respects
The trails have been designed with environmental considerations in mind, touching industrial areas and minimising ecological impacts, E.ON stresses.
The investment also includes a new fibre optic backbone system, which will provide advanced communication facilities for the network. The new technology will enable faster detection and repair of network faults, resulting in fewer power outages.
The investment will contribute to securing the long-term energy supply of the North Transdanubian region and to promoting sustainable energy production. The development will play an important role in achieving climate protection goals by enabling the region to increase its use of clean, renewable energy, they add.
