Renovation of the Budapest-Hegyeshalom railway line between Biatorbágy and Szárliget begins

From 18 September, the renovation of the Budapest-Tatabánya-Győr-Hegyeshalom main line section between Biatorbágy and Szárliget will start, scheduled to last until the timetable change in December, according to a press release of MÁV Zrt..

As we we wrote earlier, scheduled, regular pull-out force tests carried out on the 29-kilometre section between Biatorbágy and Szárliget found that this year's heavy rainfall and the heat of recent weeks had accelerated the previously identified deterioration, making it necessary to reschedule the renovation work originally planned for the first quarter of next year and carry it out as soon as possible.

According to the information, in addition to the replacement of rails and concrete sleepers, the ballast will be replaced, track alignment will be carried out, and more than one and a half kilometres of the substructure (railway embankment, notch) will be repaired, and six overhead line support poles will be replaced. The works, which will be divided into three phases and will last around three months, will involve laying 950 120-metre long rails, replacing 96,000 reinforced concrete sleepers and installing more than 100,000 tonnes of ballast.

The project was carried out by MÁV Zrt. subsidiary, MÁV FKG, with HUF 32.5 billion being spent on maintenance.

Significant changes to train services

From the first phase, starting on Monday, 18th, there will be significant changes to the train timetable. Passengers can find information about the changes and recommended services on the website www.mav.hu/egyesvonal, which is continuously updated with detailed information, timetables and maps.

In addition, information will be provided on displays, posters and loudspeakers at stations, stops, on trains and through sales channels.
