Two railway stations in Eastern Hungary welcome passengers in a renewed environment

In August 2021, a Grant Agreement was signed between the Prime Minister's Office and the MÁV, in which it was stipulated that the railway company can use HUF 2 billion of non-refundable government funding for the development of railway stations under the Hungarian Village Programme, according to a statement by MÁV.

The works at the Vaja-Rohod railway station in Sabolsk included the renewal of the roof cladding and the installation of new windows and windows, as well as the maintenance of the entire façade to ensure a uniform appearance.

In line with today's requirements, the travelling public will be served by an air-conditioned waiting room with USB charging table and a modern passenger toilet, while orientation will be facilitated by renewed static passenger information elements (signs, pictograms). In the reconstruction of the reception building's surroundings, paved pedestrian walkways have been created, with new outdoor furniture and a new covered bicycle shelter.

Landscaping and planting in the unpaved areas around the building will improve the station's appearance. As a result of a coordinated effort with the municipality, a camera system has been installed in the station area.

Bicycle storage for passengers departing from Medgyesegyháza

In Medgyesegyháza in Békés county, an air-conditioned waiting room and a barrier-free passenger toilet have been installed, and the ticket office has been equipped with security glass.

For ease of access, the entrance to the building on the city side has been converted to a wide automatic door. In the passenger lounge, the seating area has been renewed, as well as the static passenger information system and a USB charging table for the convenience of waiting passengers. On the trackside, the area between the stairs and the pedestrian crossing has been tidied up, and a handrail has been added to the street stairs of the reception building. The area around the building has been paved with paving, bicycle storage and a green island.

After Mád, Szany-Rábaszentandrás, Zichyújfalu, Okány, Biharnagybajom, Csömödér-Páka and Vaja-Rohod, Medgyesegyháza is the eighth location where the travelling public can buy tickets and wait in a cultured and modern environment thanks to the Hungarian Village Programme.

In the Hungarian Village Programme project, MÁV aims to make the improvements felt by the local residents. To this end, the railway company is working closely with all municipalities to improve the surroundings of the buildings, to make use of surplus premises and buildings, and to operate passenger facilities. The working environment for railway staff at the stations concerned will also be improved.
