Biatorbágy on the road to development: the country's most modern secondary school was inaugurated 

The town of Pest County, part of the Budapest agglomeration, is taking another step forward with a new investment in education. On 29 August 2023, the Biatorbágy Innovative Technical College and Grammar School, considered the most modern secondary school in the country, was handed over. The building, its equipment and the infrastructure built around it were realised entirely with government support, at a total cost of HUF 23 billion. The investment was carried out by Fejér-B.Á.L. Zrt..

Built as a greenfield investment, the 11,000-square-metre secondary school building is unique in its state-of-the-art spaces and 21st century digital technology. The Ökumenikus Segélyszervezet-maintained technical school and high school will offer marketable skills in logistics, finance and IT for 600 students, with high school classes in two languages.

In addition to offering students living in the area a competitive alternative to commuting schools in Budapest, the high school will also serve the cultural, sporting and educational needs of the area in the long term through its multifunctional building.

The sports hall can meet the sporting needs of the entire agglomeration

The school building's architectural interior and exterior design reflects the principles and core values of Ökumenikus Segélyszervezet, while following the needs of its users and adapting to the most modern forms of education.

The classrooms are organised into teaching blocks, creating informal learning spaces that support extra-curricular learning and collaboration.

An additional principle for the design of the spaces was flexibility, so that the building could serve multiple purposes: in addition to education, it could be a place for community gatherings, host sports and cultural events, and local community events and celebrations.

The conference room for 200 people, the spacious auditorium, the 1000 sqm sports hall, the gym and the sports courtyard with handball, volleyball, teqball, badminton and floorball courts all serve this purpose.

During the design and construction phase, great emphasis was placed on technological solutions that support sustainability. A 150kW solar farm has been installed on the roof, and particular attention has been paid to the design of renewable energy-based mechanical systems, the orientation of the building, shading and heating/cooling solutions, and natural lighting. In the school garden, 15,000 plants were planted.

The building is equipped with state-of-the-art digital technology, which primarily supports the education in the institution, but all the school's service activities beyond teaching, such as access control and cafeteria services, are also digitalised.

The investment also included significant improvements to the environmental infrastructure.

The future generation must master artificial intelligence

The new school building, with 18 classrooms, 16 classrooms for groups, 9 classrooms and a sports complex, was inaugurated by Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár. On behalf of the region, Member of Parliament Tamás Menczer and Mayor István Tarjáni of Biatorbágy gave a welcome speech.

At the large-scale handover ceremony, the Minister of Construction and Transport stressed that the Government considers it an important mission to stay in touch with the historic churches and the church and civil organisations associated with them, and to help them in their social mission.
