New prison built in Csenger with environmentally friendly solutions

As part of the prison service's capacity expansion programme, a high-security prison is being built in Csenger, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The facility, which will be able to accommodate 1,500 people, will be located one kilometre from the 49 main road, on a 5.5-hectare site, and will feature modern, durable and environmentally friendly architectural solutions. The facility is expected to be completed by autumn 2024 and will be built by West Hungária Bau Kft..

The inmates will also be provided with learning and employment opportunities in this prison, including classrooms and two workshops

- Colonel György Makula, head of communications at the National Command of the Penitentiary Service told MTI.

The investment will create jobs as well as accommodation: almost 700 workers will be needed to run the new prison. A recruitment office has been opened in Csenger for those interested, he said, and the training of new entrants has already started, with four classes starting their basic prison studies. The admission procedure and the 14-week basic training course are carried out locally in Csenger, while the students receive full pay from the start of the course and throughout the entire duration of their education.

In Csenger, the salary of a district supervisor is expected to reach 400 thousand forints net per month from January, and the minimum requirement for application is a skilled worker's qualification.
