The building, designed by Ferenc Callmeyer, originally stood directly on the waterfront with its cantilever above the water, but it could not withstand the regular winter icing, so the area in front of it was filled in and is now a terrace. The Tátika was also rebuilt in the 1980s, again to the design of Ferenc Callmeyer.

There will be a restaurant in Tátika again

While the monument, which was inaugurated in 1962, still looks like it did when it was built, the renovation has also added new features, according to the contractor's Facebook post, adding that the plans are to create an information office and a community space for tourists on the lower level, and to continue to operate as a restaurant on the upper level.

The project will include

  • Mechanical installation works (heat pump heating system, water and sewage network, heating);
  • and electrical installation work for high and low voltage (security systems, computer systems, lightning protection)
  • and lift construction on a total area of more than 1,000 square metres.
