The energy modernisation of the Traumatology Centre, with a floor area of more than 9,000 square metres, is to be completed.

The University of Pécs is seeking the contractor offering the best bid to carry out energy modernisation work on its Traumatology Centre. According to the call for tenders published in the EU public procurement register, the modernisation would affect both wings of the emergency care complex among the buildings located on Akác Street. The department will continue to receive patients during the works, so the renovation must be carried out with as little disruption to patients as possible.

Nearly 3400 square metres of facades insulated

The two wings of the Traumatology Centre cover 9156 square metres and there are three additional floors above the basement. According to the tender, the west wing needs to have its windows replaced and the nearly 1,860 square metres of the building's façade insulated.

The building is flat-roofed and will require insulation and waterproofing works on about 1650 square metres. As in the west wing, the investor is also requesting thermal insulation and partial replacement of windows in the eastern part of the centre, which covers an area of nearly 1,510 square metres.

Modernisation of the hospital's thermal centre

According to the tender, the PTE also wants to carry out a complete reconstruction of one of the thermal centres of the Traumatology Centre, which supplies both wings of the emergency department with heat and hot water, which should be provided to the hospital department during the works, even with temporary solutions. The heat receiver will be owned and constructed by PÉTÁV Kft.. According to the tender specification, the PTE-owned system will be installed in a separate location in the heat centre area, connected to the existing gas boiler system.

The investor requests the timing of the heating-related works to be done during the summer. These include the dismantling of all existing supply and return fittings, the use of available piping - if necessary by modifying it - and the installation of new valves to create a modern heating system.

Due to the thermal insulation of the external walls of the west wing, the steam pipes will have to be temporarily removed from the building during the works and reinstalled after completion. A similar procedure will be required for the air conditioning systems in the façade.

The energy modernisation will also affect the previously installed solar system. The 41 panels on the roof will be removed and then reinstalled after the insulation works are completed. A review of the buildings' lightning protection system will also be part of the work to be carried out.
