From road construction to gyms - ten improvements for the City of Bridges

Thanks to grant funding, nearly half a hundred roads will be asphalted, pavements and fountains will be renovated in the town of Békés. They will also upgrade the energy efficiency of the historic Gallery building in the town square, improve the medical clinic, build a gym for kindergarten children and implement a programme to help socially deprived people. New investments include economic development and tourism. The city of Békés can implement the ten programmes with more than HUF 3.6 billion, the municipality said.

16 square metres of pavement renewed

A total of 16,000 square metres of pavement will be renovated in the centre of Békés with more than half a billion forints from new funding, street furniture will be purchased and ten new CCTV cameras will be installed to increase the safety of the residents.

A further HUF 371 million will be spent on the modernisation of the main square fountain, the construction of an automatic irrigation system in the Erzsébet grove, the paving of Kőrösi Csoma Sándor street and the renewal of the cycle lanes. The investments were announced by the mayor of the municipality. Tibor Kálmán also mentioned that as part of this project, the rainwater systems will be modernised.

Making the operation of a listed building more sustainable

The town of 18,000 inhabitants can renovate the historic Gallery building, built in 1885 and the pride of the town, which also houses a museum and library. By spring next year, 440 million forints will be spent on modernising the heating and lighting system, insulating the building and replacing more than 100 windows and doors.
 

The kindergartners get a new gym, the community a new event space

As part of the investments, a new gymnasium for the kindergarten children in Teleki Street is planned to be built next spring with a budget of HUF 120 million. The city is also planning an investment in the Dánfok holiday centre. Eighty-six million forints will be used to build a community space for 100 people. The tourism development will also include the concreting of the bottom of the existing event tent, a sand cleaning machine and waterfront and aquatic adventure elements.

Road renovations and hall construction can also boost the city's economy

Békés has been awarded a HUF 300 million grant for economic development, which will be used to build a 652-square-metre industrial hall where entrepreneurs are welcome. The 1.6 billion forints awarded will allow for significant road improvements. Nearly half a hundred of these roads will be paved.
 

The interior of the medical clinic is being renovated

The municipality has won new funding to renovate the clinic that serves patients in the town and surrounding area. This will be used to renovate the interior. It is planned to modernise 1,600 square metres of the health centre by 2026 at a cost of €300 million. 

Housing and training support for people in need

Seven garden houses are to be built for the socially deprived with 237 million forints and three streets will be paved by next spring through the Rehabilitation of run-down urban areas tender. A further 140 million will be used to organise training and outreach programmes for those affected.
