With this development, the air cargo handling capacity of Liszt Ferenc Airport has been increased dramatically

Since August last year, double the capacity has been available on the BUD Cargo City apron, which can now handle four F aircraft at a time. The development of the complex has now reached another milestone:

In February, the new 10 000 square metres of warehouse space was officially inaugurated, which, together with offices and operational infrastructure, will increase the capacity of the air cargo handling complex to 300 000 tonnes per year

This represents an increase in capacity of 40% in response to the ever-increasing demand for cargo. By 2040, the airport's air cargo centre is expected to contribute HUF 40 billion to the country's GDP.

The investment in the Bud Cargo City Handling logistics building located next to Liszt Ferenc International Airport was realised with the work of Merkbau Zrt., with the latest news about the project appearing in topping-out ceremony in May 2023. During the investment, the complex was expanded with a 6,500 square metre warehouse, a 2,000 square metre office and a covered area suitable for receiving live animals.

The ongoing development of BUD Cargo City is a strategic investment for Budapest Airport. The current expansion further strengthens the role of BUD Cargo City as a regional distribution hub and contributes to the growth of the Hungarian air freight sector. As we have previously reported previously reported, the existing complex is part of the BUD 2020 Development Programme, the Merkbau Construction and Trade Kft. and began operating in 2019 to modernise the airport's infrastructure and services, which was continued by the now completed investment.
