What is being built?
The restoration of a Baroque castle of great importance in our country is progressing spectacularly
Each owner has left their mark on the more than 250-year-old Tisza Castle in Geszt, which was renovated by WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. and Build It Mérnökiroda Kft.. As we mentioned in our previous article, the Tisza family built a mansion on the estate in 1772 in the Baroque-Copf style, which then underwent numerous extensions and renovations. The mansion underwent modern developments in the 20th century, including the installation of electricity, a hot water supply system and a telephone, and survived the Second World War in good condition, but afterwards its entire furnishings were destroyed. Later, it housed a school and a cultural centre, then a library, but after the change of regime, its condition deteriorated steadily.
There will be a number of attractions for visitors
As we we wrote, the renovation of the building, which had fallen into disrepair in recent years, was constantly on the agenda, as it once served as the residence of the Tisza family, the home of two prime ministers of Hungary, and also hosted government meetings, among other things. Kálmán Tisza became the owner of the castle in 1860 and was the head of the Hungarian government between 1875 and 1890. After Kálmán Tisza's death in 1902, the building passed to Count István Tisza, who served as prime minister between 1903 and 1905, and then again between 1913 and 1917.
As mentioned above, the castle will host an exhibition on the history of the family, with a number of attractions for visitors. Visitors will be able to learn more about the Tisza family, the careers of prime ministers Kálmán Tisza and István Tisza, and the everyday life of the castle.
