Imre Nagy Square in the capital's second district is being transformed. In addition to the new playground and rest areas, the current running area will be doubled in size, with a paddling area and agility equipment installed, to the delight of dog lovers.

Nagy Imre Square, located near the banks of the Danube, is getting a completely new look. According to the announcement published in the EU public procurement notice (TED), after the reconstruction, the area will have two new central locations: a barrier-free rest area and a plant box. The latter will be accessed by stairs from two directions, and these approaches will be connected by the so-called Milky Way promenade. The project may be implemented by VIANOVA 87 Zrt. and Garden-System Kertépítő Kft..

A public toilet will be built next to the modern playground

The project will also modernise the playground on the Gyorskocsi Street side of the square. According to the announcement, creative and stimulating surfaces will be created for children by installing new equipment. The project will also include the construction of a public toilet next to the playground.

The street lighting in the area will be upgraded and a CCTV system and a permanent guard post will be installed.

A paradise for dogs, including a swimming pool

The part of Nagy Imre Square towards Vitéz Street is also expected to undergo significant changes.

For dog owners and their pets, the current run will be more than doubled in size. The 415-square-metre area will also include agility equipment, tunnels, sandpits, digging areas and a play area with paddocks. There will even be a paddling pool for dogs.

Previously, the Flame of the Revolution monument was placed in a strip of the square along Main Street, surrounded by a lawn and a row of ferns. New plants will also be planted to integrate this part of the site into the regeneration area.
The renovation of the square will cost around 515 million forints.
