What is being built?
Official laying of the foundation stone of the new centre of Nagykálló
As we previously reported, the Kállai Kettős Event and Conference Centre, named after a local dance, will be built thanks to a grant of approximately 1 billion forints from the TOP Plusz programme and the city's own resources, as well as the work of KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt..
The event centre will have a central, representative space with high ceilings, and its structure can be easily adapted or extended in the future. The building will have a reinforced concrete pillar frame covered with circular slab panels and will be bordered by a glass wall on the Kállai Kettős tér side.
Significant improvements, contemporary solutions
It will be an extremely modern building, where environmental considerations will also be at the forefront, writes Dr. Miklós Simon, Member of Parliament, quoting the welcoming speech in his report on SZON.hu.
The MEP also stressed that the road has been bumpy, but finally the city's decades-long dream can be realised. The capacity of the large hall and the infrastructure to serve the performers will be larger than in the former cultural centre, while energy consumption and maintenance costs will be significantly lower.
The investment will cost around HUF 1.6 billion, but it is not the only major development that has taken place in the city in recent years. In the previous EU cycle, Nagykálló received around HUF 3.5 billion in funding from 11 tenders, said Dr. Miklós Simon, adding that the work will not stop, and even more funding will be coming to the city in the coming years.
One of the biggest investments will be the Antal Nagy Vocational School in Buda, which will receive around HUF 6 billion from the Hungarian state and the European Union
- the MEP gave an insight into developments in the near future.
The investment will also strengthen the local community
"Today is a day of celebration," said Dr Zsófia Koncz, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Hungarian Parliament. "Many people think of Nagykálló as part of the Hungarian identity and we can be proud of it. There are milestones in the life of every person and settlement, and the construction of the event hall is such a point in the history of Nagykálló."
It will be a true community space, something the people have been waiting a decade for. In the city, great emphasis is placed on tradition and on passing on folk knowledge and art to the younger generation," the State Secretary stressed.
"Soon, our city will be able to make great progress not only in material but also in cultural life, when the new event space is completed. Soon our cultural events will have a home and we will be able to open up to new opportunities", Mayor Tibor Horváth told us.
