What is being built?
One of the most important buildings of Mikszáth Square is being renovated
The building of the Faculty of Dentistry and Oral Surgery (FSZOI) at Semmelweis University is in poor condition from an engineering, architectural and technological point of view, and has been in need of renovation for years. Based on the recently announced public procurement, work can finally begin, with the contracting authority giving the contractor 20 months to complete the project. The winner's tasks will include architectural and interior design alterations, the installation of equipment for the newly designed mechanical systems, the installation of new barrier-free lifts, and the provision of facilities that comply with medical technology specifications.
The modernisation of the Institute will also change the building's cubature, but not its function.
The covered inner courtyard of the ground floor of the eclectic building, a classicist building in a listed building setting, highlighted by a corner balustrade, will be modified and the massing and appearance of the courtyard will be altered due to the mechanical floor construction. The corner building of the Faculty of Dentistry, Institute of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, managed by Semmelweis University, is located at the south-west corner of Mikszáth Kálmán Square and Szentkirályi Street, with a closed-construction. The U-shaped building with basement + ground floor + 2 floors + attic has a simple massing and is connected to the neighbouring buildings by gable gable walls.
General tasks of the successful tenderer:
- replacement of front windows and doors,
- demolition of internal partitions and construction of new partitions,
- installation of slab replacements and suspended ceilings, taking into account the planned mechanical systems,
- installation of new mechanical and electrical shafts,
- new internal windows and doors,
- replacement of existing roof shells,
- Installation of 2 new barrier-free lifts,
- partial addition of an engineering floor on the inner courtyard wing.
The basement tasks:
- retrofitting internal waterproofing,
- Installation of 2 new load lifters.
Ground floor tasks:
- replacement of 6 pillars in the meeting and lecture room in the courtyard,
- design of a new support structure system,
- replacement of barrier-free stairs and lifts in the entrance area.
Works to be carried out on the floors and in the attic:
- demolition of existing balcony,
- the use of chimneys,
- installation of new skylights,
- roof replacement for the installation of an air handling unit,
- the installation of a liquid cooling unit.
The placement of many medical devices will make the task more difficult
The X-ray room on the first floor is necessary (planned instruments: 1 CBCT, 1 panoramic, 1 intraoral). The basement level is necessary to create a vacuum centre and compressor room in the newly excavated room. In addition to safely retaining the dome vault above the sealed basement section, the planned intermediate wall section needs to be replaced by free openings. It will also accommodate the central double-sided sterilizer, a row of staff dressing rooms, a workshop, a filing room and a storage area for the ambulance.
The entrance gate needs to be restored as an original architectural feature.
The renovation of the building should ensure the preservation of the modernised outpatient clinic, which has been rebuilt in recent years. The internal courtyard will be redesigned, with the replacement of supporting columns and the installation of skylights. Antistatic flooring will be provided in the spaces designated by the client (on each floor) and a heat pump liquid chiller with a nominal heating capacity of 525 kW, enclosed by an acoustic wall, will be installed on the 5th floor, between the lift machine room and the courtyard.
