Hungary's first rural Hilton hotel opens. The Hilton Garden Inn Debrecen City Centre was built in the historic city centre, next to the Reformed Church and the Reformed College, by A-Híd Zrt..

The hotel will have 101 rooms, all day dining restaurant and sky bar, according to the event. The hotel also has a fitness room, meeting room, underground parking and children's corner. The building, which will have 2 basement levels and a ground floor, will have seven floors with a floor area of nearly 5,000 square meters.

More than a thousand Hilton hotels have been built worldwide

György László, Managing Director of the investor tetrecen Kft., said that the hotel stands out not only because of its location and imposing appearance, but also because it was built to the latest sustainability standards and has been awarded the US LEED Gold certification.

Malgorzata Morek, Hilton's Development Director for Eastern Europe, welcomed the people of Debrecen to the Hilton family, and pointed out that Debrecen is already more than the thousandth Hilton hotel in the world.

Debrecen welcomed 100 thousand guests in the first half of this year

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, László Papp (Fidesz-KDNP), Mayor of Debrecen, said that the city's economic results in recent years have also attracted the attention of Hilton's decision-makers. He indicated that in 2023, the number of guests and the number of guest nights in Debrecen increased by 4 percent and 5.2 percent, making last year a new record year for tourism in the city.

Anikó Suhajda-Molnár, CEO of Kisfaludy2030 Turisztikai Fejlesztő Nonprofit Zrt., said that between January and July this year, Hungarian accommodation providers registered more than 17.8 million guest nights, which is almost eight percent more than in the first six months of the record year 2023. He added that in the first half of the year, Debrecen welcomed 100,000 guests, who spent 288,000 guest nights, and the city's accommodation revenue was HUF 6.7 billion.
