Szijjártó said that on Monday he had a telephone conversation with Alexei Likhachev, CEO of Roszatom, on the occasion of the Paks project once again passing important milestones. In parallel, the preparation of the full excavation works is underway, and the appointed subcontractor is continuously deploying to the site, so that the full excavation works can start in mid-September, the Minister said. He added that 24,000 piles have already been driven into the ground during the ground preparation works, so that just under a third of the piles needed are already in place.

Staff numbers will increase significantly in the coming period

He and the CEO of Roszatom reviewed the important tasks for the coming weeks, which are necessary to further accelerate the project; more than a thousand people are already working on site and this number will increase significantly in the coming period, Szijjártó said.

In his statement, the Minister stressed that the recent setbacks in energy policy have once again shown that the countries that are really safe are those that can produce most of the energy they need themselves. "Given Hungary's capabilities, the task for us is to speed up the construction of the two new units of the Paks nuclear power plant," he said.
