Prefabricated elements and a rare roof solution will rebuild the burnt down department store at the gate of the Danube

Following the laying of the foundation stone at the end of February, another milestone has been reached in Szentendre with the construction of the new SPAR building near the department store that burned down three years ago. The general contractor, Dryvit Profi Kft., and the experts at Ferrobeton Zrt. used, among other things, the Leier prefabricated reinforced concrete structures, the structural work on the more than 4,000 square metre building with its unique façade was completed in less than six months.

The area around the store will also be improved

As previously reported on our portal our portal previously reported, SPAR is building a new department store in Szentendre, next to the HÉV terminus, as part of a greenfield investment, along with a promenade and a new park. More than half of the building's area, which exceeds 4,000 square metres, will be taken up by the new underground car park, while the supermarket on the ground floor will have a floor space of nearly 1,000 square metres, where a modern sales area will be created.

Prefabricated wall elements helped to save time

In addition to the Dryvit Profi Kft., which carries out the general construction, the Ferrobeton Zrt. experts are involved in the construction of the building structure. Csaba Kovács, construction manager of Ferrobeton, told our portal,

The structural work on the building will be completed in August, and the roof will be finished.

The project used Leier precast reinforced concrete bark wall elements, which were chosen for their time-saving on-site construction and surface quality.

Special roof structure and façade solutions

Csaba Kovács added that the foundation of the building is a monolithic structure, the garage level was built using prefabricated pillars and beams. Prefabricated columns and bark panel walls were also used for the ground floor of the building, and where necessary for bracing, monolithic walls were used.

At the Szentendre department store, the Leier bark wall elements delivered in cages were lifted to the installation site using a tower crane.

Bark wall with high fire load capacity installed

Leier has been commissioned to manufacture and deliver a total of 880 square metres of bark walls to replace the fire-retardant monolithic walls on the ground floor of the Szentendre department store, Gábor Radnai, product manager of Leier's precast reinforced concrete structures, told our portal.

The project's history - the previous store was destroyed in a fire - meant that a solution was needed where the walls would meet strict fire safety regulations and be able to withstand a REI 180 fire load on both sides. This means that the installed products will perform their role and function (e.g. support columns, stairs) in the building in the event of fire for the required duration.

The Leier bark wall (LKF) meets these requirements with its durable and consistent quality. Gábor Radnai added that, given the tight deadlines, another consideration was to incorporate products that could quickly and aesthetically form the entire wall body to match the geometry of the individual roof structure.

As a result of modern manufacturing technology, the surface of the walls has a sufficiently homogeneous, smooth outer surface, which was a key issue, as a large part of the walls will remain as an exposed surface.

Gábor Radnai added that the Leier fire retardant bark walls (LKF) have been used in several successful downtown condominium projects to replace fire retardant walls in the case of rafter installation.

The interior design of the new SPAR supermarket in Szentendre will soon begin. The store is scheduled to open in the first quarter of next year.
