The popular pool of the Akácliget Spa in Karcag was renovated without interruption

An important tourist attraction in the town of Karcag is the Akácliget Spa and Beach Baths, one of whose most popular pools has undergone a complete renovation. The outdoor Gyógy III pool was an old-style, cement-covered, whitewashed concrete pool that required significant maintenance every year. Now, using products from Cemix Hungary Kft. products and the general construction of Azép Building Kft., the pool welcomes spa guests after a complete renovation.

Modernisation was needed

"The pool was built more than 50 years ago, and since then it has not been renovated, only continuously maintained. Its hydraulics were outdated and the concrete body was cracked in several places"

A complete renovation of the Gyógy III pool was therefore necessary, where the client's most important requirement was a long-term durable solution. Accordingly, the old filling and emptying hydraulic system was replaced by a water circulator, and the pool body was modernised with aesthetic tiling and visual elements to ensure that it could be used for recreation and bathing by almost all age groups.

Complete construction in four months

The contractor's staff built a 133 m² water surface, one-metre deep, water-recirculating beach pool with experience elements, which is accompanied by an experience machine house below ground level, a sunbathing area above it, and an above-ground, lightweight water machine house serving the pool's mechanical technologies.

The construction, which started on 28 March 2024, was completed on 25 July 2024, while the beach did not have to be closed during the works, and the other pools of the spa were able to operate without interruption.

Working together for success

Thanks to the professional preparation and effective communication, the cooperation, the coordination of the consultations and the coordination of activities were smooth - emphasized Marietta Antalné Házi and Zoltán Antal:

"Perhaps the biggest challenge was the time constraints. The extremely wet weather in May and June slows down the construction of an outdoor wading pool, as the concrete structure cannot dry out sufficiently in this weather, so the paving cannot start. If this is not taken into account, the vapour pressure will pull it off the levelling layer underneath, together with the cladding. Our company therefore decided to cover the entire pool at its own cost to ensure the fastest possible drying and construction, so that the construction could proceed without any problems."

The right products for the right results

As pointed out by the paving contractor Csaba Cheese on behalf of CZP 2006 Kft.:

"In our experience, a system built with a Cemix product offers the most durable solution that works well over the long term. Pools built with Cemix products also have no subsequent defects or complaints problems, making them an excellent value for money building material."

"In the case of pools, it is important to level the substrate and the side wall before tiling, for which, as Csaba Sajtos told us, Cemix has a better solution than other manufacturers: the side wall can be levelled with the specially developed RENDO plaster."

"This material is easy to work with; it's quick to apply, even by machine, and easy to smooth. After curing, it is firmer than similar products from other manufacturers"

The pools are also characterised by grouting. "Cemix's acid and alkali resistant epoxy grout," he says, "is the most durable in our experience. And from a processing perspective, we like it because it washes off easily with cold water."

Decades of experience

Back in 2015, the new RENDO pool sidewall levelling plaster was first used and tested during the modernisation of the Berekfürdő Spa and Beach Baths.

"The advice and experience of the CZP 2006 Kft. was then used in the product development. So the good personal relationship was already there"
