The search for the contractor of the New National Gallery - details of the building have been published

We recently wrote about Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt. CEO statement that construction of the New National Gallery will begin next year. We previously quoted Serena Di Giuliano, an employee of the company, on the design process of the building, which was built based on the plans of the Tokyo-based SANAA építésziroda.

The New National Gallery, designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architectural firm, will replace the Rooftop Hall, and visitors will be able to walk almost unnoticed from the park.

The building was conceived as an extension of the City Park, the architect said in an earlier panel discussion. The designs for the New National Gallery were selected by an international jury in an open competition.

Expected to be completed in 36 months

The seven-storey building will have a total area of around 50,000 square metres

According to TED, the planned building area will be 13,440 m2 above ground level and 12,060 m2 below ground level. The sill height will rise to 24.98 metres and the highest point of the building will be 31.29 metres.

The New National Gallery will have 2 basements, a ground floor and 4 floors, with a total floor area of 48,665 m2 and a total gross floor area of 53,961 m2.

The building will be made up of four rotating blocks

A description of the massing of the building is also given in the documentation: it is explained that the rising block will consist of four building masses rotated in relation to each other.

Each of the four building units will have a walkway core, housing the staircases, the mechanical lift equipment and the mechanical shafts. These cores will also provide the basic spatial rigidity of the building units and will be supplemented by additional stiffening elements.

A covered bicycle storage will be built along the north-eastern side of the project area, and the loading ramp to the -2P basement level will be located near Hermina Road.

A district heating network will be installed and the waste heat from the chiller will be used for supplementary heating, and 3 heat pumps and a geothermal system will be installed

This is how the interiors of the New National Gallery will be divided according to function:

• permanent exhibition space: 11.215 m²,
• temporary exhibition spaces with glass gallery 1.825 m²
• attached workshops: 599m²
• event hall: 760 m2, with seating for nearly 500 people
• warehouses serving exhibition spaces: 2500 m2
• auditoriums and section rooms 268 m2
• museum education classrooms and offices 300 m2
• cooking kitchen and dining room with 4 to 600 hot meals per day, cafeteria with 200 seats and 220 m2 of eating space;
• cafeteria: for drinks and ready meals, with a 50-seat capacity
• offices: 1.500 m2

Green solutions are also a priority

The technical parameters and utility connections are also included in the documentation, but special mention should also be made of the 13,000 m2 of landscaping work, which will include 1,400 m2 of vegetation and 7,300 m2 of paved surfaces.

Green solutions also play an important role, as evidenced by the fact that the project has been certified to „excellent” BREEAM.
