One of the cultural centres in the centre of Pécs has been renovated
On 3 October, the recently renovated Lenau House in Pécs, which serves as the cultural centre for Germans in southern Transdanubia, Hungary, was officially opened. According to public procurement data , the renovation of the building, which cost approximately 548 million forints and was carried out by Mestercsillag Mérnöki Kft., serves the purpose of strengthening the ties between members of the German community in Hungary , according to a statement by János Flódung, president of the Nikolaus Lenau Cultural Association.
The Lenau House, built more than thirty years ago in the centre of Pécs, was renovated and modernised over the course of a year with government support, adding new functions to the building's interior and developing and landscaping the courtyard.
Englenderné Ibolya Hock, President of the National Self-Government of Hungarian Germans reminded that the Lenau Association, the first German organisation in Hungary, was founded before the regime change and has established its own cultural centre in Pécs for almost 35 years.
He expressed his hope that the Lenau House, renovated with the support of the Hungarian government and adapted to the needs of the times, will be able to attract even more young and old people, to serve as a meeting point and cultural centre.
