This development will speed up the delivery of medicines to pharmacies - the foundation stone of the 6,500 square metre logistics centre has been laid
The PHOENIX Pharma Zrt. is a member of the PHOENIX-Group which is present in several countries in Europe. The company is the number one wholesale partner for domestic pharmacies and also plays a major role in supplying hospitals. The company's delivery trucks cover 50,000 km every day and deliver 800,000 boxes of medicines to pharmacies and hospitals in accordance with strict professional standards, according to a press release sent to this newspaper.
This is why the construction of a 6,550 m2 state-of-the-art pharmaceutical wholesale centre and office building in Győr is of paramount importance to the Hungarian healthcare sector and patients in order to develop the pharmaceutical supply in the West-Hungarian region. The greenfield investment is worth HUF 8 billion.
The warehouse is operated by the Hungarian company MERKBAU Zrt., based on the engineering plans of the also domestic Óbuda Építész Stúdió Kft..

Important numbers
Every day, 4,000 PHOENIX crates will be shipped out of the new Győr Logistics Centre, which means the professional receipt, storage, picking and delivery of approximately 100,000 boxes of medicines and other products per day.

Environment and efficiency
When designing the logistics centre, PHOENIX focused on efficiency, environmental and sustainability considerations. The 5,500 m² of contiguous warehouse space is designed with the LEAN approach to eliminate unnecessary stock movement and optimise the logistics flow of each box of medicines. A picking machine with a capacity of 1700 products will also be installed, which will place more than 60% of the ordered medicines in the delivery crates.
To reduce CO2 emissions, a modern, fossil-free cooling and heating system will be installed, supported by a 200 kWp roof-mounted high-capacity solar PV system.
The centre will be operational by 2026
"The technical plans for the entirely self-financed project are ready, and the building and warehouse technology will be in place by the end of next year. Operational operation will start after the warehouse has been approved by the authorities in the first half of 2026.

Ordered medicines will arrive faster
The new, larger warehouse and the modern technology used will significantly increase processing capacity and shorten the time between receipt of an order and delivery. As a result, pharmacies and hospitals will be able to postpone their order dispatch deadlines and receive their products earlier.
From Győr, the new centre will serve pharmacies and hospitals in the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, Veszprém and Fejér. The building will not be located in the city centre, but close to the motorway and major expressways, which will also shorten delivery times. Overall, the new warehouse and storage technology will strengthen the continuous and safe supply of high quality medicines.
