Nearly half a billion forints road construction project in Western Hungary

In the Zala Two Wheels development programme, an investment of HUF 493 million is being invested to improve the bicycle lanes in Garaboncon, Nagyrada, Zalaszabar and Esztergályhorváti. The contractor Horváth-Ép Közmű- Út- és Mélyépítő Kft. has recently taken over the construction sites.

Investment in four municipalities

The consortium, led by the county council, won a 100% non-reimbursable grant for the project under the Operational Programme for Spatial and Urban Development.
The development will simplify access to jobs and public services and reduce noise and air pollution in the settlements. The new sections will create cycling links between the municipalities.

The contractor will build a total of 4.6 kilometres of cycle paths in four phases. In Garabonc 282 metres, in Nagyrada 2.4 kilometres, in Zalaszabar 660 metres and in Esztergályhorváti 1.3 kilometres will be constructed.

When the trail was marked out, the protection of trees was a consideration

In the first mentioned municipality, in addition to the road construction, a bicycle bridge will also be built. On the Nagyrada section, construction will start in the southern part of the municipality, in the inner area, and will end at the section 1+462,60, with the cyclists' corridor following the route of the 7522 link road.
The independent cycle track will have a width of 2.55 metres with a recessed kerb on both sides.

The other section of the project in Nagyrada will start from the pavement of the existing cycle path and will connect back to the 7522 link road, avoiding two wooded sections to avoid felling trees. A cycle bridge will be built at section 1+100.

A rest area is also being built at Zalaszabar

On the Zalaszabar section, the development of the two-way cycle path will continue with, among other things, the construction of a ramp on section 1+494 km. The planned route will end at section 1+700 km, joining the 7522 j. link road. The development of Zalaszabar also includes the construction of a cycling rest area at section 0+131.50 km.
In the case of the Esztergályhorváti section, a two-way cycle track will be built along 173 m of the Zalaszabar section of the project.

Developments can boost tourism in the Little Balaton region

The project is part of an earlier network development, during which 7.6 kilometres of roads were built or marked out in Sármellék, and nearly 12 kilometres of cycle paths were built between Zalaszentmárton, Esztergályhorváti, Egeraracsa and Zalaszabar. And between Sármellék and Zalavár, almost 4.2 kilometres of new sections have been built, while a cycling bridge has been added to the Zala bike path network in Zalaapáti.
