Gym built a hundred and five years ago to be renovated at the university of the Bodrog town

Tokaj-Hegyalja University has launched a public procurement procedure for the interior renovation and refurbishment of the building that houses its viticulture and oenology training programme, which was previously used as a library. According to the announcement published in the EU public procurement notice announcement published in the EU public procurement bulletin, the project also includes the general construction of the roof and facade of the gymnasium.

Half a millennium in the service of Hungarian education

Another development may take place at Tokaj-Hegyalja University. Sárospatak, also known as the Athens of the Bodrog River, has been one of the most prominent centres of education in Hungary since the 16th century. The local Reformed college was founded in 1531, and its walls have housed such epoch-making educators as Comenius. The school building was originally constructed for military purposes, but the unfinished building was purchased by Zemplén County for teacher training and, from 1870, it was one of the most prestigious locations for teacher training. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was expanded based on the designs of Jenő Lechner and László Warga. New roof for the 1919-built gym

A recent public procurement procedure reveals that further parts of the university building could be modernised. The gymnasium, built in 1919, and the library building, erected in the 1990s, will be linked to the main building, built in 1909 and listed as a local monument. The aim of the investor is to preserve the Lechner architecture while providing an energy-efficient educational building for the training of future viticulture and oenology professionals, which will meet the needs of the 21st century.

Bids from contractors are invited until the end of January

The area affected by the works is bounded by the external walls of the patinated main building and the dormitory. The surface area of the parts of the building to be renovated exceeds 1640 square metres. The façade will receive a new exterior on 1740 sqm, while the roof surface will be covered with new insulation and tile roofing on nearly 530 sqm.
Bids for the works are invited until 31 January. The works to be carried out include the replacement of external windows and windows, the installation of a heat pump with a modern mechanical system, the insulation of the attic ceiling and the provision of mechanical ventilation.

The building will also have modern machinery and a lift

The contractors will also have to carry out major work on the interior of the building. These include, among other things, the dismantling of walls, the construction of suspended ceilings, the replacement of external and internal windows and doors, the installation of a lift, and the replacement of the cladding after the installation of ground damp proofing. The modernisation will also affect the utilities serving the buildings. The entire electricity supply network will be upgraded, the entire water and waste water systems will be renovated, and camera and alarm systems will be installed.
