Work can start on the fire-damaged Tolna spa
With a grant of HUF 910 million from Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM), the Tama Thermal Baths, damaged by fire in 2021, will be restored by Denco Kft.. The grant was handed over to Mayor Ferenc Porga (Fidesz-KDNP) in Tamás on Wednesday by Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary for Civil Engineering.
About 70 percent of the building needs to be restored
The spa caught fire on 1 November 2021 and part of the roof structure of the spa burnt down. In addition to the roof, the electrical network was also damaged and the fire water caused extensive damage to the leisure and spa pools, the mechanical equipment and the ventilation system.
At a press event held on Wednesday, it was revealed that about 70 percent of the 4,424-square-metre building needs to be restored. András Széles, the city's deputy mayor, explained that not only will the building be restored to its previous state, as the project will be a reconstruction combined with a development.

The exterior will be kept open during construction
Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary for Civil Engineering, said at the event that the Government, ÉKM, is committed to restoring to the highest quality those facilities damaged by force majeure that mean a lot to communities. "In the Tama project, ÉKM is assisting with design and technical supervision and project management," he added.
János Süli (KDNP), Member of Parliament of the region, noted that the Tamás facility is the most significant thermal bath in Tolna County. Ferenc Porga said that the construction deadline is one year.
According to the deputy mayor, from Thursday to Sunday, bathers can currently use the outdoor areas, which are planned to remain open during the construction. In the full year of operation before the fire, 168,000 guests visited the spa.
