What is being built?
The new school in Szigetszentmiklós will be built with a space inspired by grape clusters
We previously written about the Dunamelléki Reformed Church District announcing an open architectural design competition for the construction of a new 16-classroom primary and arts school in the Bucka district of Szigetszentmiklós.
Forty-three entries were submitted to the design competition, of which the diocese purchased 12 and awarded prizes to five. The first prize was awarded to Ártér Építész Műterem Kft.. According to information published in the EU public procurement notice, the winner of the conditional public procurement procedure for the design was the design office, with which a contract worth HUF 433 million was concluded on 29 July 2025.
Characteristic parameters of the school
The new institution will be a 16-form entry primary school, which will provide education for students in grades 1-8, with two classes per grade. It is planned to house 16 classrooms, 6 classrooms, 7 classrooms for special needs and a gymnasium. The school will have a capacity of 480 pupils and the total floor area of the building is planned to be around 6344 square metres. The gymnasium will be 1,350 square metres and a 500-capacity canteen is planned.
Tasks to be carried out by the designer
The task of the Artér Architectural Studio is to incorporate the professional comments on the application and the refined design programme into the final development concept.
The work includes the preparation of the necessary preparatory documents, permit plans and construction plans, as well as assistance in the related permit procedures. The project also requires the development and continuous updating of a BIM model with an average LOD 200 detail. The design office will be actively involved in the selection of the contractor, the design supervision during construction and the occupancy permit process.
Vine-inspired spatial system
The winning entry uses a spatial system based on the pattern of the vine and the cluster of grapes. This concept opens up a new dimension in school architecture, since, in addition to classrooms that can be flexibly arranged in a bath-like manner, common spaces, courtyards and terraces also become pedagogical spaces.
Smaller units linked to the central community core, such as the gym, the chapel and the restaurant, will be available for separate use, thus strengthening the school's community and cultural role in Szigetszentmiklós.
