A large-scale development project has been launched at the institution in Nagykálló, which has a history dating back more than a century and a half.

One of the region's leading construction companies, Nyíregyháza-based „KE-VÍZ 21” zRt., is playing an increasingly prominent role in shaping the image of Nagykálló. The town, located near Nyíregyháza, was once the seat of Szabolcs County. Last year, the residents took possession of the Kállai Kettős Event and Conference Centre, which offers excellent opportunities and plays an important role in the cultural life of the area.

This year, the multi-generational family business launched another large-scale investment, as the general construction of the „KE-VÍZ 21” Zrt. is carrying out the large-scale expansion of the Mátészalka Vocational Training Centre Budai Nagy Antal Technical College and Vocational High School in Nagykálló. The project involves the construction of a new school building and a modern dormitory wing.

The institution will be expanded with classrooms, communal spaces and an assembly hall.

The school currently operates in a pillar-framed, panel building complex, which was fitted with thermal insulation, a Dryvit façade and plastic windows and doors in the 2000s. The load-bearing structures are typically provided by monolithic reinforced concrete elements.

A new three-storey block is being built on the grounds of the education centre, which will be directly connected to the existing school building. The new section will house six classrooms, storage rooms, toilets, common rooms and an impressive assembly hall. A roof terrace and mechanical courtyard will also be built on the top floor.

Part of the existing single-storey transport system will be demolished and replaced with a green roof solution. The new development will provide a modern educational environment in line with the school's growing student numbers.

Modern dormitory for 150 students

According to the plans, a four-storey dormitory building will also be constructed, which will accommodate 150 young people. The four-person rooms will have their own showers, and in addition to the shared bathrooms, there will also be staff rooms and kitchenettes on each floor.

The ground floor will house offices, patient rooms, a storage room and a canteen kitchen. The dormitory will be closely connected to the school buildings, ensuring convenient and safe transport for students.

At least 96 parking spaces must also be provided on the property.

Construction is proceeding according to schedule.

The work site was handed over in April 2025, and on-site work began in May. Structural work is currently underway, public utilities have been completed, and construction of the eastern car park is also at an advanced stage.

The expert added that internal mechanical, electrical and specialist works will commence in the coming months, while the construction of the car park and the conversion of the existing school section will also continue. Handover is expected to take place in 2026.

Tradition and innovation in one place

The Budai Nagy Antal Technical College and Vocational Secondary School will celebrate its 155th anniversary in 2025. The institution aims to build on its traditions to provide practice-oriented training that meets modern requirements. Students here can train to become IT system and application operators, childcare workers, financial and accounting clerks, tourism technicians or hospitality technicians, among other things.
