Göd's legendary Danube riverside restaurant may be rebuilt
István Széchenyi often visited Göd, primarily because of its excellent race stable, where trainers brought in from England trained the finest horses of the era. Many memories of his days spent here are preserved in the Széchenyi csárda, a restaurant that is at least a hundred years old and was once known as the Strand restaurant, which is now an iconic place for the people of Göd.
The complex, located directly on the banks of the Danube, served two functions: its southern wing served as a boathouse for athletes, while its northern wing, enriched with a terrace, housed one of Göd's most famous restaurants. As revealed in the public procurement notice, the building has now become unusable, and Prizma Build Szolgáltató Zrt has been commissioned to demolish it and build a new service building.
A modern building, preserved values
The contractor will have 10 months and approximately 478 million forints at its disposal to demolish the building and construct the new one, which Prizma Build can rebuild with the same functional layout as the previous one.
The new building will be constructed using modern, 21st-century, durable architectural solutions reminiscent of the traditional Alsógöd environment. In a later phase, the upper floor and attic will also be developed.
The building, with a total usable floor space of 863 m², will also house a restaurant, a kitchen, a boathouse, changing rooms and a gym, and will serve the local community with covered terraces facing the Danube.
In addition, while maintaining the symmetrical building mass, the boathouse is divided into three sections with boat storage, upstairs changing rooms, a coach's room and a training room: The upper floor functions are located in the central section of the building, partly above the restaurant's service area, thus ensuring a moderate building height.
