Historic educational building renovated in Szeged
A building that is over a hundred years old and protected as a historical monument has been renovated for Gál Ferenc University by Bodrogi Bau Kft. The building, which previously housed the Móricz Zsigmond Primary School, served educational purposes for decades. will house the university's Department of Child and Youth Protection and its sports science research division from autumn onwards, Rector László Dux told MTI, adding that these activities are closely linked to the university's mission of training professionals to promote people's physical and mental well-being.
A complete energy conversion took place
During the reconstruction, the interior of the building was covered, painted, the interior doors and windows were replaced, and the building services system was renovated. The previous gas convector heating and boilers were replaced with a modern heat pump system, and the electrical network and lighting were modernised.
According to public procurement data, the contractor for the reconstruction, which cost a net total of HUF 350 million, was Bodrogi Bau Kft., based in Hódmezővásárhely.
Child protection takes centre stage
The property, renovated with EU support, will house the Department of Child and Youth Protection and the sports diagnostics department of the higher education institution, Rector László Dux announced on Wednesday with MTI.
The professor said that the reconstruction of the building in Újszeged was part of the university's complex institutional development programme. As the first element of the project, with a budget of 1.269 billion forints, the sports facilities of the GFE's Szarvas Faculty of Education and training schools were handed over in early autumn last year and are already being used by students.
The building will house research facilities dedicated to child protection and a specialist library. The university's new campus will be named after Don Bosco, whose life serves as an example to all those working in child protection, added János Kothencz, head of the GFE's Department of Child and Youth Protection.
