Fonyód gets a boost with the construction of a cycle path near Lake Balaton and a spa

We have previously reported on the development of the Fonyód-Csisztapuszta-Buzsák cycle path, which was undertaken by SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft. . Now there is news about another section: the southern section of the route connecting to the Balaton Cycle Route at Fonyód and also affecting the Csisztapuszta spa will be built by Colas Út Zrt, with construction starting – reported sonline.hu and termalonline.hu recently.

As reported, the section north of the M7 overpass (where SWIETELSKY was working) was completed in 2022, and now work has begun on the southern and final section. Here, the Colas is preparing the line between sections 3+443 and 5+189 using a 6-8 m wide temporary road base built for the motorway construction using a 6-8 m wide temporary road base built for motorway construction.

Speaking at the announcement event, László Zombori, Colas construction manager said that the track will be completed first with minor corrections to the existing road.

"The whole section will be levelled with a ten centimetre layer of stone, then two layers of asphalt and a limestone embankment, a reinforced concrete protection slab will be installed for a gas pipeline crossing", he said. Work is scheduled to begin after 20 August and the contractor is confident that the weather will be kind and the work will be completed weeks ahead of the 31 December deadline.

It will be easier to get to the spa

József Hidvégi, Mayor of Fonyód said that the people of Buzsák and Fonyód will have a dream of at least 30 years come true with the completion of the missing section with more than 100 million forints from the Operational Programme for Regional and Urban Development.

The cycle path will make it even easier for people on the shores of Lake Balaton to get to the Csisztapuszta spa, but many commuters from Marcali are now also using it to get to Fonyód.
