Construction of the country's longest motorway could go ahead

The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium has commissioned RODEN Kft. and FŐMTERV Zrt. to prepare the design of a 7 km long 2×2 lane expressway from Tompa to the border, as well as a new border crossing for freight traffic. These two companies were the best bidders in the EU tender notice for the designation of the route of the road, the environmental permits and the study design for the continuation of the M9 southern link.

Planning for new sections started last autumn

Our portal reported that a public procurement tender was issued last October for the design of a new section of the M9 expressway. The announcement, published in October 2023, concerned the design of the following sections, the preparation of the required documentation and the obtaining of permits:

• the 57 km section of the M9 motorway between motorways 51 and 53
• southern tie-up to the blunt, and
• Jánoshalma engineering plant and planning of a cycle path between Jánoshalma and Kiskunhalas.

The tender also included the construction of the southern bypass of Baja connected to the main road 51 and the extension of the Tisza bridge in Algyő on road 47 to 2×2 lanes.

The longest motorway in the country

The longest motorway in our country, some 300 kilometres long, would link the existing radial motorways. About 20 kilometres of it have been completed so far.

The M9 is also known as the ring road of the countryside, crossing the country from west to east, connecting the cities of Debrecen, Békéscsaba, Szeged, Pécs, Kaposvár, Nagykanizsa, Zalaegerszeg, Körmend, Szombathely, Kőszeg.
