Reporting on the ongoing first phase of the M49 Péter Czeglédi, head of the main construction department, told our newspaper that the hummus is already being harvested at the 21+000 section on the main track. At the same time, up to this section, the construction of the crossing roads and the earthworks on the dirt roads is also progressing steadily.

An important development is that in July the construction of the track structure also started at the beginning of the track: between sections 0+450 and 5+000 (i.e. in the Jarmi area, next to the M3 motorway - ed.) "The Ckt base layer has already been completed on the right and left tracks in this section, and the asphalt base layer is also under construction", said Péter Czeglédi.

The diversion road to the Matészalka junction is already completed

He also pointed out that the construction of the bridges is also progressing according to schedule. "As a result, the construction of nine bridges between kilometre sections 0+450 and 14+000 is progressing steadily, with the roadbed of five of them already completed," he added. "The substructure and steel structure works on the Kraszna bridge are also progressing well; welding and surface treatment of the main girders and pushing are also on schedule."

One of the key elements of the project is the junction at the intersection of the M49 and the 471 main road connecting Debrecen to Mátészalka. "The diversion road for the construction works has already been completed and the technical handover procedure is under way. It is expected to be put into service in the second half of August, so that the construction of the B075 bridge and the junction can start."

60-70% of earthworks will be completed this year

In conclusion, the Chief Architect also outlined the work expected this year and what they need to achieve by the end of 2024. "This year, we aim to replace all the utilities and to reach the level of the binding layer in the construction of the track structure on a 10 km stretch. At the same time, there is a plan to start construction on all bridges and we would like to have 60-70 per cent of the earthworks built."
