Road building
Easier driving on one of the capital's busiest main roads
By the end of August, the investor of Waterfront City, Biggeorge 4. Real Estate Development Real Estate Investment Fund, will construct a new turning lane on the section of Szentendrei út next to JYSK. SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft. The company will also complete the work necessary to finish the new pedestrian crossing on Raktár Street by the end of the month.
The Waterfront City residential complex, spreading over approximately 50 thousand square metres, is one of the largest current developments in Óbuda. In addition to the increased traffic, the investment in roads will result in the development of a transport infrastructure adapted to the changes in traffic over the years.
The traffic engineering modifications bring significant benefits, making life easier for residents of the housing estate in terms of transport, as they reduce the distance and time travelled by motor vehicle by local residents and also reduce traffic on Raktár and Bogdáni roads. As the Óbuda Local Government emphasised on its website :
The new car park next to JYSK and the new connections on the opposite side will be implemented as part of this integrated system, based on thorough studies and consultations with traffic engineering experts.
In addition to the effective integration of the Waterfront City into the district traffic, the investor has therefore undertaken the additional task of redesigning the traffic engineering and pavement of the road section alongside the JYSK, including the construction of cycle lanes and cycle crossings.
They did a complete job
Attila Farkas, head of construction, informed us about the renovations on Szentendrei utca: SWIETELSKY is responsible for the public space development works related to the construction of the Waterfront City residential complex. The project will involve the construction of the new TTP117111.1.
- road construction,
- stormwater drainage,
- street lighting,
- communications,
- high and low current,
- traffic management substructures and
- has a technical section for traffic engineering.
As these works also involved tree felling, the required tree felling was carried out in the district.
One of the most intensively used sections of the Szentendrei road has been restructured
„As part of the project,” emphasised the construction manager, "new road connections have been created on Szentendrei Road. Bogdáni and Raktár Streets have been widened with cycle lanes on both sides, and cyclists can now cross Szentendrei Road."
Following the first phase, which lasted from mid-July 2023 to the end of 2023, the second phase of the work started in March 2024 and will be completed by the end of August. The work on the Szentendrei road, which involved major traffic restrictions, was timed to coincide with the school holidays, during which virtually all the wires, poles and structures were put in place and the road structures were completed, so that the construction of the wearing course is now nearing completion.
The last phase of road and pavement works is now complete
The works were carried out in accordance with temporary traffic engineering plans: the asphalt works at the junction of Bogdan and Warehouse streets were carried out according to separate traffic engineering plans and were carried out at night. "During the asphalting of the Bogdáni junction, the island separating the traffic directions on Szentendrei út had to be demolished for one day for the BKK buses," said Attila Farkas. Although the subsoil of poor-quality construction debris and the many utility lines that had to be buried posed a challenge, now that the asphalting is complete, only the final traffic engineering elements - signage and painting of pavement markings - remain to be completed.
