A town between Oradea and Cluj Napoca has been given a bypass

The full length of the Elesdi bypass road, which helps traffic from Cluj-Napoca towards the Romanian-Hungarian border, was opened on Saturday, Bihor County Council President Ilie Bolojan said. Until now, the centre of Alesd, between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea, was crossed by traffic between the two cities and towards the Romanian-Hungarian border, but the opening of the bypass (in blue on the map) on Saturday has solved this problem. It also provided a new alternative for traffic coming from Zilah and continuing towards Cluj-Napoca (in green on the map).

Ilie Bolojan announced on his Facebook page that cars can now drive along the entire 5.85-kilometre bypass. This will divert traffic from Cluj-Napoca and Zilah away from the centre of the town. A section of the ring road was opened last year, but the remaining 1.6 kilometres have been delayed by lawsuits brought by the owners of expropriated land.

The Belényes and Bihar bypasses will be opened soon

The council president pointed out that the Elesdi bypass is the fifth bypass built recently by the Bihor County Council in cooperation with the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR). Four of them - around Bihorszentandrás, Váradszentmárton, Nagyürögd and Fugyivásárhely - were built in the agglomeration of Oradea and serve motor traffic to the county seat and the Romanian-Hungarian border.

Two projects are still to be completed: the Belényes bypass is due to be opened to motor traffic in September, while the Bihar village near the Romanian-Hungarian border is scheduled to be opened to motor traffic in November. The Eleses bypass was built at a cost of around RON 89 million (HUF 7 billion), financed by EU funds.
