The public procurement for the continuation of the M49 had to be re-launched on the Romanian side
The national company managing road infrastructure (CNAIR) has restarted the public procurement procedure for the construction of the Satu Mare-Ovári expressway, according to szatmar.ro website.

The importance of the four-lane road section is that it will create a motorway link to Satu Mare, together with the M49 on the Hungarian side. The total length of the route between the major city in Partium and the border town of Óvári is 14.862 kilometres, of which 10.831 kilometres are express roads and 4.031 kilometres are connecting roads, according to the previous statement by CNAIR director Cristian Pistol.
The speed limit on the motorway will be 120 km/h. The project also includes two traffic interchanges, two rest areas and a Maintenance and Coordination Centre. A border crossing point will also be built on the motorway, with a total of 10 lanes, which is expected to be crossed by more than 10,000 people per day.
They were forced to temporarily suspend the project
The first round of this procurement was launched on 29 January 2024, and bids were invited until 14 March. However, more than 440 requests for clarifications were sent by interested companies on the specifications in the tender dossier, forcing CNAIR to temporarily suspend the procedure.
