Road building
Another large-scale road improvement project in Bács-Kiskun county
The pavement rehabilitation and sealing works on the section of the 441 main road between Kecskemét and Nagykőrös have been completed, according to the investor Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium.
In the project, involving about 10 kilometres, a major section of the 441 main road in Kecskemét was widened to four lanes, and a 7.29-kilometre section of the 445 bypass between the northern bypass of Kecskemét and Téglagyári Street in Nagykőrös was upgraded by Colas Út Zrt.
One of the reasons for the investment was the significant increase in the number of commuters between Kecskemét and Nagykőrös in recent years due to the major investments in Kecskemét, which has led to the deterioration of the main road. This will be remedied by building a road with a higher capacity and better quality.
Speed limit expected to remain in place until mid-September
According to the latest news from ÉKM, the pedestrian crossings on the section of the main road from Kecskemét to Katonatelep were completed on 27 August 2024. At the same time, the diversions on the four-lane section were also removed. The affected section will continue to be used as a work area and the speed limit of 40 km/h will remain in force until the area is returned to the road operator. This is expected to happen by mid-September 2024.
The full length of the reconstructed two-lane section between Kecskemét and Nagykőrös is now open, but this section is also a work zone, so the 60 km/h speed limit remains in force.
In the next period, a pre-commissioning road safety audit will be carried out. The traffic engineering changes validated in this context will be carried out by the contractor during the day with traffic diversion in small sections, but will not cause significant traffic delays.
These changes are expected
The following changes to the traffic pattern are expected as a result of the reconstruction of the roundabout junction 441-445:
- the roundabout 445 (currently closed) under construction is expected to partially open to two-way traffic on Saturday 31 August 2024 (in case of unforeseen obstacles, it may be opened on Monday morning 02 September 2024);
- the direct branch is closed at the same time;
- restrictions are lifted and the traffic lights are switched on at the traffic light junction on the 445;
- people coming from Nagykőrös/Katonatelep can use the new lanes of the roundabout to go in the inner lane towards Kecskemét Centrum and in the outer lane on the 445 towards both Békéscsaba and Budapest;
- on the 441. main road from the direction of Kecskemét Centrum, you can use the roundabout to reach the first exit in the direction of Katonatelep/Nagykőrös and continue on the third exit up to the 445. main road;
- those arriving from the 445 main road will arrive at the roundabout on the renovated old single lane, from where they can use the roundabout to turn left towards Katonatelep/Nagykőrös, or turn right from the roundabout to Ceglédi út towards Kecskemét Centrum.
